Media Director

Full-Time Position

We’re seeking to hire a seasoned media professional to join our award-winning advertising, marketing, and public relations team in Owings Mills, MD, as our media director. Our ideal candidate is someone who is well-versed in all types of media with a type-A passion for managing a variety of client projects, budgets, and deadlines; understands the strategic media process; and is ready to oversee the planning, negotiation and execution of traditional media, digital media planning, placement, analysis, and interpretation.

The media director has a staff of one or more media buyers and/or assistants and reports to our agency’s president.


  • Previous media planning experience (8+ years preferred)
  • A four-year degree (coursework in marketing or advertising preferred)
  • Well-versed in traditional and interactive media research and buying
  • Familiar with media analysis and interpretation
  • A thorough knowledge of customer demographics and psychographics
  • Comfortable presenting media plans and deliverables to clients and prospects
  • Comfortable overseeing business contacts, rates, tracking and measurement programs and deliverables
  • Superior communication, management, and organizational skills


  • Has a thorough understanding of all media and stays up to date on new vehicles.
  • Develops and presents media plans based on client goals and strategic objectives.
  • Researches and compiles statistics on reach, frequency, CPMs, cost-per-click, CTRs, unique users, page views, conversion, cost-per-action and cost-per-sale data, for personal reference and to educate client service team members and clients.
  • Negotiates with media reps to ensure the most cost-effective buys and most efficient placements.
  • Understands and can clearly explain all advertising options to client service team members and clients.
  • Maintains an up-to-date directory of traditional and interactive advertising and marketing resources, including current pricing structures and format options.
  • Builds a network of media contacts to utilize as information and research resources for the agency and our clients.
  • Supervises all media personnel in conduct of their assigned duties.
  • Interfaces with other agency department heads/client service teams to keep projects moving forward on a timely basis and with accurate specifications and deadlines.
  • Working with the creative team, insures use of the most appropriate, effective media venues for each client/project.
  • Prepares media plans based on briefings from account executives.
  • Prepares media schedules and keeps schedules up to date.
  • Prepares media cost estimates and revises as required when media rates change.
  • Books media space and issues insertion orders, insertion cancellations, and media change requests.
  • Coordinates with production team to ensure media material deadlines are met.
  • Approves media invoices and settles billing discrepancies with media vendors.
  • Oversees all social media advertising.
  • Maintains contact with media advertising representatives.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of programs and software, ensuring entire media department, as well as individual staff members, remain on the leading edge of essential technology and skills.
  • Authorizes skills training for media team.
