An Installation that Celebrates New Beginnings at the Family Birthplace at Carroll Hospital

The Family Birthplace at Carroll Hospital is a state-of-the-art birthing center in Westminster, MD, that provides families with an ideal, home-like atmosphere to welcome their little ones into the world. With private Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Suites and Neonatal Couplet Care Suites, the Family Birthplace prioritizes the patient experience, and the team goes above and beyond to ensure parents and their loved ones feel comfortable and at ease during their stay.

Introducing the Installation Project

The manager of the Family Birthplace reached out to our agency about the possibility of designing a wall installation that would serve as the perfect photo opportunity for families to capture the moment they’re discharged from the hospital with their newborn. Our creative department brainstormed and presented three unique concepts that each celebrated new life and new beginnings in very different ways.

The Chosen Concept

After reviewing all of the concepts, the Family Birthplace team informed us that they would like to move forward with the whimsical, Seussian-inspired option. They were drawn to this idea for its inviting, vibrant, and memorable look—and because it positioned Carroll Hospital as the perfect place for future families to start their journey. After the concept was selected, the next challenge was determining how we were going to bring this idea off the page and onto the wall right inside the doors to the unit.

The Installation

Collaborating with Image360 Westminster and Signs by Tomorrow, our graphic designers and the Family Birthplace team got to work on bringing the 70×90 inch wall installation to life. First, the design was digitally printed on PVC material with multiple layers to provide depth and visual interest. The layers that were printed on their own include the bees, birds, flowers, and sign, and they were each carefully laid on top of the base layer of the piece. The incredible facility management team at Carroll Hospital also graciously painted the wall our chosen sky blue—the backdrop of the entire installation—so we were ready to go on May 15, 2024, when it was time to make this project a reality.
During the installation, multiple nurses walked through the hallway where the wall is located to express their excitement and pose for photos. Now, patients and their loved ones can celebrate and commemorate such an exciting moment in their lives at the Family Birthplace
