The Maryland Workforce Association (MWA) consists of 13 local workforce boards across Maryland. Among other priorities, MWA collaborates with Maryland’s public school systems and community colleges to oversee the state’s Career Counseling Program, which provides Maryland middle and high school students with customized career coaching services that guide them on their journeys to choosing one or more post-college and career-readiness pathways.
The Devaney & Associates public relations team worked with MWA during this year’s Maryland General Assembly Session to raise awareness for the success of the Career Counseling Program and MWA’s advocacy for its continued funding under Pillar 3 of The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.
Our team successfully pitched and secured multiple broadcast and online media placements. Each featured interviews with MWA representatives, and key messages about the Career Counseling Program and legislative efforts to preserve the future involvement of Maryland’s local workforce boards in this important work. Key media placements include:
In addition to the PR efforts, the D&A creative team designed and launched a micro-website, set4careersuccess.org, that communicates key talking points, testimonials, and success stories about Maryland’s Career Counseling Program. Moving forward, the site will continue to serve as a key tool in MWA’s ongoing work to advocate and garner new support and participation in the program.
By the conclusion of the 2025 Maryland General Assembly, MWA succeeded in adding language to the Governor’s Blueprint reform bill that extends dedicated funding for workforce board-led partnerships in the Career Counseling Program through at least FY2028.
Whether through media coverage, key talking points, a website, or other informative collateral, we are happy to discuss how our team can support your advocacy efforts.
